The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek – 17 Days is a truly spectacular Himalayan journey that combines the classic Annapurna Circuit with a rewarding side trip to one of the world’s highest lakes. This extended itinerary is ideal for trekkers seeking a deeper and more immersive experience, allowing proper acclimatization while exploring some of Nepal’s most diverse landscapes. The trek reaches its highest point at the legendary Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) and includes a breathtaking visit to Tilicho Lake (4,919 m), a stunning turquoise lake set amidst dramatic high-altitude terrain.
Throughout the journey, trekkers are treated to ever-changing scenery, from lush subtropical forests and terraced farmland to alpine meadows and the stark beauty of high mountain deserts. The trail offers uninterrupted views of some of the most iconic Himalayan peaks, including the Annapurna Massif, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Pisang Peak. One of the most striking features of this trek is the dramatic contrast in landscapes, as you move from green valleys filled with waterfalls and rivers to dry, windswept valleys in the rain shadow region of Mustang.
Nature lovers will find this trek especially rewarding, as the Annapurna region is rich in biodiversity. Along the lower sections, you walk through dense rhododendron, oak, and pine forests, which bloom beautifully in spring. As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes sparse, but the sense of wilderness grows stronger. The region is home to a variety of wildlife, and with a bit of luck, trekkers may spot Himalayan blue sheep, musk deer, langurs, and even the elusive snow leopard in higher altitudes. Bird enthusiasts can also enjoy sightings of colorful Himalayan birds, including the Danphe (Himalayan monal), Nepal’s national bird.
Beyond its natural beauty, the trek also offers rich cultural experiences, passing through traditional villages inhabited by Gurung, Manangi, and Thakali communities. Prayer flags, monasteries, and mani walls line the trails, reflecting the strong influence of Tibetan Buddhism in the region. Warm hospitality, authentic local cuisine, and glimpses into centuries-old traditions add depth to this incredible journey.
The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is a perfect blend of adventure, scenery, wildlife, and culture. With its iconic high mountain passes, pristine lake, and diverse landscapes, it stands out as one of the most rewarding and complete trekking experiences in Nepal, ideal for those seeking both challenge and inspiration in the heart of the Himalayas.
