The Upper Dolpo with Jomsom Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and rewarding Himalayan adventures,...
The Lower Dolpo Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and rewarding trekking adventures, taking you deep into the untouched landscapes of the trans-Himalayan region. Hidden in the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri Range, this challenging trek offers a unique combination of rugged mountain scenery, ancient Tibetan culture, and pristine wilderness far from the busy trekking routes of Nepal.
A major highlight of the journey is the spectacular Phoksundo Lake (3,611m), famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters surrounded by dramatic cliffs and snow-capped peaks. The trek passes through traditional villages such as Ringmo, where local communities continue to practice centuries-old Tibetan Buddhist and Bon traditions, preserving a rich cultural heritage.
The route also crosses high mountain passes, including Numa La Pass (5,310m) and Baga La Pass (5,170m), rewarding trekkers with breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri Massif, Kanjirowa Himal, and the vast Tibetan Plateau. Along the way, you will encounter ancient monasteries, mani walls, yak pastures, deep valleys, and remote alpine landscapes.
Typically completed in 14–18 days, the Lower Dolpo Circuit Trek is ideal for experienced trekkers seeking an authentic off-the-beaten-path adventure. The best seasons are spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November), although the region is also suitable during the monsoon due to its dry rain-shadow climate.
With its dramatic scenery, rich culture, and remote wilderness, the Lower Dolpo Circuit Trek remains one of Nepal’s most extraordinary trekking experiences for adventurous travelers.
