Mount Everest is the highest point on earth; it is 8848.86m/29,031.69 ft tall, towering above sea level. Mt. Everest became named after Sir George Everest, the British surveyor-general of India, Everest, in Tibet is known as Chomolungma and Nepali people call this mountain Sagarmatha. Mt. Everest is located half in Nepal and half in Tibet.
From Nepal Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and from New Zealand Edmund Hillary were the first climbers of Everest, via the South-East Ridge Route on 29th May 1953. Ms. Junko Tabei from Japan climbed Everest via the South-East Ridge and she became the first climber of Everest. Mr. Reinhold Messner from Italy was the first solo climber via the North Col to the North face on 8-20-1980. Mr. Reinhold Messner from Italy and Mr. Peter Habeler from Austria were the first climbers who made the ascent without bottled oxygen.
